Why do we do Archaeology?
Archaeology is the study of human culture. We do archeology to KNOW the past and contribute to the development of human knowledge. Archaeologists are the political, economic, social and cultural analysts of antiquity. We analyze the factors involved in the historical processes of development and change. Although our field of research is the past, we are still very much part of the present and the future development of Panama.
We do archeology to LEARN from this past and reinforce our human condition and our identity as a group. All this knowledge will also serve to foster the social cohesion that strengthens us as a nation.
We also do archeology to CONTRIBUTE TO THE ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT of our communities by studying one of its cultural resources, the archaeological sites.
